Dad's Feeling Much Better

Dad is back at school today, and worked at a swim meet with his students yesterday.  He hasn't started running again, yet, but is eating three meals a day now.  I sure hope I don't get dengue fever!

This is Why I Moved to Dhaka.

Linguistic Development

I love that when I walk down the street I know what some people are saying.  For example, when I hear a man yelling “murgir,” I know he’ll soon bike by me with a big basket of chickens on his flat-bed rickshaw.  When I hear the man downstairs yelling “ilish mas, chingri mas,” I know Mom can hold me on the balcony and we’ll see him walking with a basket of super bony freshwater fish and shrimp.

Now I just need to work on saying my own words!

On Sunday at School Dad...

...had a cup of hot tea when he arrived, even though it was already 85 degrees Fahrenheit outside.  He says that's what you do when you work with so many British people.

...counted how many pull-ups his students could do, as well as measured how far they could stretch when sitting on the floor.  One girl stretched nine inches past her own feet!

...planned the water polo tournament his students from fifth grade through tenth grade will have on Tuesday at an international club by the school.

...ate chicken curry for lunch.

...taught fifth graders about why Viking ships were so good for invading other lands, and then built ships with his students.

...coordinated busses for the swim meet his students would have that evening.  Good thing the office manager was back at school.

...taught his swimmers how to dive into a pool right before the meet, because it was the first time some of them had been at a pool deep enough for diving.  The one with snorkel goggles still didn't get it.

...and had two students win their events at the meet.

a classroom at the school (It's actually where Mom works with some students a couple hours a week)

school library
one of the outdoor areas at the school where Dad can work with his students during PE
And then he came home and played with me, and that was my favorite part!  I’ve got a pretty cool dad.

Balancing

Today Mom balanced all of the following on a rickshaw:
  • me, sleeping and needing my head propped
  • my diaper bag, complete with the essentials plus the Bangladesh extras (sun screen, toilet paper)
  • 1 kilo of potatoes
  • 1/2 kilo of carrots
  • 12 eggs in a plastic bag and no carton
  • 5 oranges
  • 2 out of season, and therefore overpriced mangoes
Keep in mind that while riding a rickshaw it is essential that she gives me extra support in my carrier because most drivers do not slow down for speed bumps, pot holes or rubbish heaps and keeps the balls of her feet flexed on the two by four that prevents us from flying into the rickshaw driver when he refuses to break for said obstacles.  Unfortunately, Mom was not also balancing her camera.
